The Skokie Fire Department last week celebrated the graduation of eleven students from its 2023 Citizens Fire Academy program!
The graduates, ages 22 to 85, completed the 8-week educational program providing a first-hand look at fire department training, skills, and operations, including fire investigations, CPR, vehicle extrication, firefighting and much more. After completing the program, three program graduates aspire to become future firefighters.
The Citizens Fire Academy is coordinated by the department’s Fire Prevention Bureau, which provides public education, fire prevention and risk reduction services to the community. The department’s public engagement efforts, including the Citizens Fire Academy, have helped it maintain its prestigious ISO Class 1 designation for nearly three decades, placing it among the top 1 percent of all fire departments nationwide.
