The Village uses the street for stormwater storage. Restrictors are placed in the storm drains to slow the flow of water into the main sewer. This is done to help prevent the sewers from completely filling, which leads to basement backups.
Stormwater is intended to stay on Skokie streets for about four hours after heavy rain subsides. To report a street that has flooded for longer than four hours following a rain event, please submit a request below.
