Art lovers enjoy Downtown Skokie and exploring the extensive public art including both sculpture and murals.   There are currently 19 unique art installations located throughout the Downtown from Oakton Street to Main Street.  Currently, The Gallery at a+c architects (4840 Main Street) features revolving visiting artists and an eclectic modern art gallery is currently under construction at 7933 Lincoln Avenue. Residents and visitors alike are drawn to downtown Skokie for the opportunity to stroll along the brick lined sidewalks that are pedestrian friendly and enjoy extensive and beautiful landscaping beds, planters and hanging baskets.

The beautiful Veteran’s Park at the tip of Lincoln and Floral Avenues and Cleveland Street honors the men and women that serve in the United States armed services, past and present. See information about Veteran’s Park.

Oakton Park, 4701 Oakton Street (southeast corner of Oakton Street and Skokie Boulevard), features the Skokie Water Playground with a 14,000 square-foot main pool with beach access, a splash pad, three slides and a giant water bucket that drenches brave swimmers! Oakton Park also is hope to the Exploratorium children’s interactive indoor playground, named Chicagoland’s “top rainy day destination” by the Chicago Tribune, as well as a spacious outdoor playground, baseball diamond, tennis courts and sheltered picnic area.

Tecumseh Park features a fun family playground, basketball court, picnicking area and even a Little Free Library, all accessible from a Skokie Valley Trail turn-off just a few blocks north of Downtown Skokie. This trail also leads to the endlessly popular Emily Oaks Nature Center, Skokie's thirteen-acre savanna and nature center is an oasis full of native wildflowers, grasses, oak trees, a two-acre pond and peaceful trails. Residing and visiting urban wildlife includes Great Blue Herons, Coyotes, Flying Squirrels, Northern Water Snakes, Red Foxes and Cooper's Hawks. The indoor nature center offers classes, meeting rooms and the interactive Woodland Wander Inn.
