Medications Disposal
Skokie Police Station
- Accepts prescription and over-the-counter medication, controlled substances, pet medications, vitamins and supplements. A medication drop-box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the lobby at 7300 Niles Center Road. They do not accept needles / sharps, syringes, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty containers, or hydrogen peroxide.
Skokie Health Department
- Accepts liquid and ointment prescription medications, human and pet pill medications (except controlled substances), syringes or needles in a sharps container, and inhalers. They do not accept thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty containers, or hydrogen peroxide.

Battery Recycling Program
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) recently established a Battery Recycling Program for rechargeable and lithium batteries, which can be dropped off at the Skokie Health Department, 5127 Oakton Street.
Common household batteries are no longer accepted at Illinois EPA-sponsored household chemical waste events and facilities, due to their benign nature and high recycling costs. On the other hand, rechargeable batteries contain heavy metals, which pose a threat to our environment and have a marketable recyclability.

Batteries Accepted in SWANCC's Program
- Rechargeable: NiCd, NiMh, lithium ion, lithium polymer
- Before dropping off rechargeable batteries, residents need to tape the contact points on each battery or place them in an individual self-locking plastic bag to avoid sparks.
There are permanent electronic recycling locations open for drop off services.

Electronics Recycling
Skokie residents can drop-off electronics free of charge most Saturdays from 9:00 to 11:30 am at the Glenview Transfer Station located at:
3 Providence Way, Des Plaines
On the east side of Des Plaines Road, 1/4 mile north of Central Road, directly across from the Maryville Academy
