Forestry & Grounds

The Forestry Division is responsible for the management of over 25,000 Village-owned trees, as well as the maintenance of Channel Park, Krier Plaza, landscaped medians, bike paths, and seasonal flower displays.  The Village values these resources and has been a proud recipient of the Tree City USA Award since 1985.

The Village Forester oversees the planting, pruning, and removal of all parkway trees.

Parkway vs. Private Trees

The Village Forester inspects parkway and other Village-owned trees for disease, insects, pruning needs, and potential removals. A parkway tree is generally located on the right of way adjacent to a street.  For most properties, parkway trees are located in the strip of grass between sidewalk and the street.  If you have a curb attached sidewalk or no sidewalk, there is still a right of way, so call the Forester for more information with any questions regarding tree ownership.

However, if you own a private tree you will need to hire a private arborist for inspections and maintenance. It is important that the company has an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist on staff and that the company is properly insured. A list of local tree care companies can be found here.
