Message from the Chief

The Village of Skokie covers 10.06 square miles of land. Skokie shares borders with the City of Evanston to the east; the Villages of Glenview and Wilmette to the north; the Villages of Morton Grove and Niles to the west and the Village of Lincolnwood and the City of Chicago to the south. The population density for Skokie is estimated to be 6,742 residents per square mile.

The Skokie Fire Department has seen a 28% increase in yearly incidents over the last 10 years. In 2022, the SFD responded to 10,473 calls for assistance, a 4% increase in total incidents from 2021. Despite the increasing call volume, the Skokie Fire Department continues to provide a high-level of service to the community. Meeting these demands has only been possible through the strong support of the Village.

For 142 years, the Skokie Fire Department has upheld a strong culture of service to others, while maintaining our core values of respect, accountability, honesty, and cooperation. With support from the Village of Skokie, municipal departments, and external agencies, the department will continually strive to provide the highest level of service to the community. We are forever committed to ensuring the life-safety and well-being of those we serve.
