The Skokie Police Department responds to all calls for service in the most expeditious manner possible, rendering all necessary aid and assistance. It is understood, however, that at times the physical presence of a Police Officer is neither necessary nor appropriate to accomplish the filing of a police report. Certain reports may be completed by telephone or on a walk-in basis. This can be accomplished by calling or visiting Skokie Police Headquarters.


Some Types of Telephone or Walk-in Reports Accepted

  • Annoying / suspicious telephone calls
  • Auto repossessions
  • Automobile accident-delayed or vehicles moved (walk-in report only)
  • Delayed prowler
  • Delayed suspicious circumstances
  • Dog bites
  • Found property (walk-in report only)
  • Lost driver's licenses (walk-in report only)
  • Lost license plate (walk-in report only)
  • Lost property
  • Some supplementary reports
  • Vacation checks

General Reports

  • Simple assault: suspect gone
  • Simple battery: no injury or suspect gone
  • Thefts: delayed or suspect gone
  • Missing person (walk-in report only, complainant's signature required)
  • Runaways (walk-in report only, complainant's signature required)

Criteria for Telephone or Walk-in Reporting

  1. Caller is receptive to accepting telephone reporting, even if the call-back may be delayed for up to one hour
  2. Delayed report where rapid response of Police Officer is not required
  3. Event not in-progress
  4. No injury or danger thereof
  5. No physical evidence at the scene
