Assist-A-Family Program

For over 16 years the Skokie Human Services Division has coordinated the Assist-A-Family Program designed to assist Skokie families with limited financial resources.  The program consists of two parts:

  1. The annual seasonal gift card program provides gift cards to Skokie families with limited financial resources.  Applications for this program open seasonally around November 1 and end in late November.  For questions on this program, please call 847-933-8208.
  2. The Emergency Financial Assistance program allows the Village’s Health and Human Services Department to provide urgent year-round support to low-income individuals and families who have experienced a hardship. Funds are used to assist qualified individuals and families pay for rent, mortgage and/or unpaid utilities.  This program is available until program funds are no longer available.

Since 2007, the Skokie Human Services Division has been at the forefront of providing crucial support to those in need through the Assist-A-Family program. And now, we invite you to be a part of this incredible initiative that has been transforming lives for over a decade.

Picture this: a low-income family struggling to make ends meet, facing the harsh realities of financial hardship. For them, the winter holiday season can be a daunting time, filled with worry and uncertainty. But thanks to the Assist-A-Family program, we can bring hope and joy into their lives. Each December, we organize a gift-card support program that ensures qualifying families can experience the warmth and happiness of the holiday season.

But our commitment doesn't end there. We understand that hardships can strike at any time throughout the year, and that's why we offer ongoing emergency financial assistance to eligible individuals and families. From rent and mortgage payments to unpaid utilities, every dollar donated to the Assist-A-Family program goes directly towards easing the burden for those who need it most.
