Electric Aggregation

Municipal Electric Aggregation Program

Effective July 1, 2023 the +/-  $0.005 Purchase Electricity Adjustment (PEA) has been eliminated from ComEd bills.  This is the result of the offsetting charges and credits between the PEAs and Carbon Free Resource Adjustment (CFRA) Rider in order to continue to minimize volatility on billing.

Opt-out letters will be sent to qualifying new customers that have moved into Skokie.  Please read below for more information about the electric aggregation program.

On August 2, 2021, the Village Board approved to enter into a three-year electrical aggregation contract with MC Squared Energy Services (MC2).   Only some accounts have been identified to be automatically enrolled in the program.  Contrary to the past aggregation program in 2012, savings to individual account holders is negligible.  Instead, the primary benefit of the program is that the Village receives a civic grant to support sustainability initiatives and other goals and objectives.  Skokie has used the funding to conduct a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, create a new environmental sustainability plan, and update streetlights to energy conserving LED's.  A general benefit received from the existence of programs such is this, is that the competition helps to slow rate increases.

Per state regulation, notification of the program must be sent to all residential and small business account holders.  Different letters will be mailed depending on the electric supply service received by a given account.  Most letters will be for information only.  If you received a notification that states it is for informational content only, no action is required.

If you received a notice that states that you will be automatically enrolled unless you opt-out, no action is required unless you wish to opt out.  You have 21 days from the date on the notice to call MC Squared at (855) 697-0286.  Please note your electric supply pricing will always match the ComEd tariff supply rate so there are no additional fees or increased or rates to participate.  Additionally, there are no termination fees and you may leave the program at any time.

Solicitations

Please be aware that MC Squared will NOT solicit door to door for this program.  They will not be calling you on the phone unless you initiate a call.  Do not give your ComEd bill to anyone at your door or by phone unless you initiated the call first.

You are free to choose the supply option of your choice, but be cautious of teaser rates and other fees. If you have questions on your electric bill or supply charges, the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) is an excellent resource.

Community Solar

For those wishing to support local renewable energy and receive direct savings, check out Skokie's community solar program.  You do not need to install solar panels on your roof to participate!
