Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The Community Development Department administers the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Grants are offered on an annual basis and awarded for eligible activities that meet one of the three national objectives for the CDBG program:

  •  Benefit low-income Skokie residents
  •  Eliminate slums and blight
  • Meet emergency needs

Applications for the 2024 CDBG Program Year can be found here and are due by Friday, December 22, 2023, at 5 p.m. Proposals will not be accepted after this date and time. Incomplete applications may be rejected.

Title I of the Housing & Community Development Act

 

  HUD provides block grants to qualified local communities annually under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act. These funds are used for infrastructure improvement projects, housing programs, social services, and other activities that are consistent with local planning goals and CDBG regulations. 
 

Eligibility

Eligible projects must meet national objectives by principally benefiting low-income people of the community or aiding in the prevention and elimination of blighting conditions. HUD must approve all projects before funds are released.
